Still basking in the glory of her awards for her superb role in The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan returns in a role in Kahaani that none of her contemporaries would dare do – playing a pregnant woman in search of her missing husband.
The Kahaani (story) is a simple one – Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) arrives in Kolkata from London, heavily pregnant, to find her husband who has gone missing after a two-week assignment in India.
As the authorities repeatedly try to prove to her that her husband never existed, the twists and turns come fast and furiously as the plot holds the viewer every minute of the way.
Policeman Rana (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) provides some unexpected help when he too gets suspicious about what looks like a major cover-up for a terrorist botch-up as a determined Vidya sets out on her own single-mined and most surprising mission.
Director Sujoy excels in this gripping thriller that is sure to win Vidya accolades again.
Kahaani is now showing on the CineCentre Bollywood circuit.
