A splashing future lies ahead for Atlantis Swimming Club members who last month undertook a Winter Camp in Polokwane under national coach – Dougie Eager who put the level one and two’s swimmers through their paces.
Eagers is head coach of the Progress Swimming Academy who also coaches some of the national team members
If what has happen at the camp for the kids and the accompanying coaches of Julie Adam, Denin Naidoo and Jade Pillay that surely the kids have a bright future in Swimming, even after some of them finish their schooling and continue this sport at provincial and national competitive level.
This camp of Lenasia’s glamour swim club started on Sunday July, 4th until the weekend with three different sessions per day, including Land Training, Lectures and in the pool – all this at the Polokwane Virgin Active and the adjacent Peter Mokoba Stadium.
The kids had to rough it up in some serious stuff on the training field, followed with lectures on nutritions, visual on swimming techniques and goal setting and mentally preparing for swim competitions. This in a nutshell was to prepare the kids for the future.
Head coach of Atlantis, Adam was very impressed with the outcome of the various session and said that ‘these kids had really much to learn and they need to take note of what they were trained on. This is a life long lesson that each one had to take home. At the camp they were kept busy by the coach with some home work every evening and also we had some fun with them.
Team spirit was just great amongst the team and this I’m sure will bode well for the future of the club and the kids. Checking their heart rate, time management, mind setting were other issues that were done by the coach.’
Immediately after the camp the Club had a session the following week at the local venue and at was of note is the great improvement of the swimmers in their finishing times.
The club participated in the Central Gauteng Aquatics Winter Champs for the seniors on July 22-24 at St Andrews and another one scheduled for July 29 -31 at St Peters for the younger ones.
Atlantis also wants to thank Stabus for the excellent services they received from them
